What is wrong with Positive Affirmations? We have all heard of positive affirmations. Many of us have used them. Many public speakers, coaches and therapists teach positive affirmations as a coping tool. What happens if we have some negative core beliefs that we can't get past? It is difficult to buy into the positive affirmations and change our behavior.
It is MORE powerful to QUESTION ourselves. Tweak that Positive Affirmation in 3 Easy Steps! Step One: Pay attention to declarative sentences that you are thinking. These will be prime candidates to tweak!
Step Two: Change the wording in that thought or affirmation by using AM I to change it to a question: AM I feeling healthy and strong today. AM I making this a great day in my life. Step Three:Then add WHAT IF: WHAT IF I make sure I don't over do it, eat all my meals and drink plenty of water? WHAT IF I count my blessings and stay away from negativity? The reason that this is so very powerful is that it helps us to tap into our creativity and curiosity. By bringing these parts of us into play we are engaging our true self. By utilizing questioning we are looking at our behaviors that are perpetuating the cycle and looking for positive change ourselves.
