Working with Children with Special Needs

Think Outside the Box!  Working with Children with Special Needs
I love this video :)  Ryan gets a baseline to see how far the child can count by twos.  He then utilizes music and retake the video two months later.  He is also showing clearly how to utilize WHATEVER a child finds reinforcing to help them learn.  He becomes an oscillating fan :)  Music can help children learn!  Think outside the box when working with kids!!
Sensory Play for Children and Parents

Sensory Play for children and parents!
Glowing slime, frozen water colors and cloud dough :) Sensory play helps children engage their senses. Sensory play is also calming for children.  Sensory play allows children to become little scientists...questioning, exploring and problem solving.  As parents you can increase their language by introducing new words (i.e., slimy, gooey, ookey). I know "ookey" isn't a word but play with language...have fun! Children can let their creativity out. It also provides a wonderful bonding experience :)  Let the mess begin!!

Chore Chart from a File Foldercognitively, linguistically, socially and emotionally, physically and creatively

I saw this in the September issue of Family Fun and thought it was a pretty cute and easy idea. It is  an easy and cheap way to make a chore chart to help children that have autism, learning differences or younger children track their chores.  The picture component is great and could be used inside and out for those that do not read. It can reduce "nagging" and Parents can see chores are completed at a distance.  With all the cute file folders you could make a pretty cute, functional chore chart!

PLUS:

You could also use as a cheap way to make a PEC Board for children with autism. It could be used for PECs that a child is working on by putting on a clipboard. You could also affix on the fridge and use for food items. The possibilities are endless.

DIRECTIONS: Cut a file folder so back panel measures 11 1/2 by 5 inches and make the front panel one inch shorter. Cut the front panel to make flaps and stick on adhesive magnetic strips to close flap to back.  Use Pictures and words to identify chores and use the word "done" or maybe a smiley face for pre-readers.

I thought this had a few great ideas :) There is one idea that I particularly like which has to do with color coding subjects.
