What do I tell my child about therapy?

Attending therapy for the first time can be scary. It is important to let your child know what to expect. The easiest way to explain this is to let your child know that a therapist is someone that helps people with their problems.  They see children that are scared, nervous, angry and having trouble at school.  They have a safe place where you can share your feelings and thoughts. Let them know that there are toys, books, art supplies and games. The first time that we meet we will be getting to know each.  Assure them that if they are still anxious about coming alone that you may stay for part of the session with them.
